How's Ian Doing?
The question we get asked all the time is “How’s Ian doing?”. You don’t do this for 20+ years without making long terms friendships and bonds with people. Well believe it or not it has been all but 6 months since he retired. Amarin continues to thrive in it’s new incarnation and Ian has been keeping himself busy.
Upon retirement Ian, and wife Lorraine, enjoyed a 2 week thrill filled trip to Orlando, Florida. During an amazing break they visited all the Disney parks, Universal Studios and even the Kennedy Space Centre. As you would expect the weather was amazing, the food incredible and both came back rested, invigorated and looking forward to their new life.
Since then Ian and Lorraine have been enjoying their new found freedom. Trips to various corners of the country keeps them busy. They visited London to see Andrea Bocelli perform at a damp Hyde Park. They enjoyed dinner at The Savoy and visited many of the capital city’s sites.
Ian has also found a new passion, or rather revived an old passion. He has successfully joined his beloved Bristol City FC’s walking football program. Although the pace is a bit slower than he was used to in his pomp the competitive element remains. Ian has been lucky enough to play, and score, at Ashton Gate (a lifelong dream!). The football has bought a new social group and he very much enjoys his Tuesday and Thursday sessions with the team.
While spending plenty of time doing jobs that never got the time they needed before, Ian has been able to spend more time with his grandsons, Noah and Charlie. Now used to having more free time Ian and Lorraine have found time to do a lot of the things they had previously not gotten to do. Recently they did a tour of the behind the scenes working of Bristol’s iconic Suspension Bridge (complete with fetching PPE!).
Looking ahead the couple have booked an exciting 2025 trip down under to visit Australia. This will no doubt be the first of many exciting adventures as they continue to see the world, and enjoy a very well earned and happy retirement together.
