The Pound comes to Priory

This week Amarin hosted a community roadshow at local Priory Community School in Weston super Mare.

Arranged by Managing Director Alex Howells the event saw the Bristol Pitbulls ice hockey team come to town. Pitbulls legend, turned owner, Richie Hargreaves along with partner/co-owner Jenny, headed up the event. Unfortunately, Amarin’s sponsored player Tommy Nappier was poorly and unable to attend as planned. In his place was young Pitbulls standout winger Elliot Lewis. The day began with a 40 minute assembly to the Year 8 PE class in the hall. During this period Richie and Elliot covered the game, its equipment and rules. They also took part in a lively Q&A with the very engaged crowd.

Following break time the year’s top set PE students got to take part in an hour hockey session with both Richie and Elliot in the school’s very well equipped sports hall. During the session the boys learned stick control, balance and some hockey techniques. The whole group showed great enthusiasm and both Pitbulls representatives were very impressed with the level of skill in the room.

The event drew to a close, with many smiling faces heading off for the rest of their school day. Year 8 tutor, and PE teacher Mr. Neil Clark had this to say, “Thanks so much for getting in touch and for the opportunity you provided for our students, they had a great time and there was some really positive feedback from them! Thanks for delivering a really engaging assembly and lesson, it was great! Good luck in the season and I’ll be in touch when I get a chance to organise a trip!”.

When Amarin agreed to take on our first ever sponsored athlete this was exactly the sort of event we had in mind. Amarin has always looked to give back to it’s local community. This includes supporting the local Children’s Scrapstore, sponsoring Weston super Mare Cricket Club’s youth section and local schools. We look forward to further interaction with the Pitbulls throughout the season and more great events for our community.

The Bristol Pitbulls next game is this Saturday against Solway Sharks. Tickets are available here Bristol Pitbulls.
