Retirement Celebration
On Friday 22nd March the whole Amarin team took some time away from the office. We often hold team building events as a group, but this one was extra special.
With yesterday’s announcement of Ian’s impending retirement Friday’s event also doubled up as his retirement celebration. In a slightly, unorthodox style for a retirement party we headed to Team Sport Bristol for Go-Karting and Laser Combat! (Website).
Having completed the necessary safety briefing and changed into our fetching race attire we headed down to the track. Ian’s race suit and helmet cover were nothing to do with us…
The petrol karts here go up to 40mph, and being mere inches off the ground you feel every one of them. The team had two 15 minute sessions with speed demon Rhu Harrison (About Us) ending up on top of the leaderboard. Rhu doesn’t own a driving license but clearly has a need for speed!
Once we’d completed our karting session we headed for the Laser Combat zone. On arrival we were told our group would be paired with a 7 year old birthday party. This was awkward. Since we had no choice, we played 3 games in the arena and are pleased to report we defeated what seemed like 12,092 kids. A lot of fun, if not a bit hot in there.
A quick costume change and we headed to a local pub for a meal and drinks to properly celebrate Ian’s career. We have always felt is important to get the team together outside of the day to day work environment. The team all came away having had a great time, particularly Ian, and that was the main objective of the evening. Ian got the sendoff he deserves, and fun was had by all.
Next time we’ll check we don’t class with a kids party though.
