Father & Son
Tomorrow marks the end of an era for Amarin Rubber & Plastics as my Dad, Ian, retires.
Twenty-one years ago (1st April 2003), almost to the day after he and Martin (Dibble) started our great company together, Dad begins a hugely well-deserved retirement. (About Us).
After working in related industries for fifty years the time has come to enjoy the fruits of his labour with my Mum (his wife, Lorraine). Throughout Dad’s time this company has gone from a two man start up business to a vibrant, successful, and modern business that will continue for many years to come.
I have been with the company for over fifteen years now and will assume the role of ‘Managing Director’. Aron (Charles), who has had a very successful start to his Amarin career, will take over Ian’s sales areas. Aron and Dad have been working closely together to make the transition as smooth as possible for our customers. Dad will remain a shareholder of the company.
The team within the office, Mariet (Plaistow) and Wanda (Thompson), have taken on additional duties and have made Dad’s retirement process an easy one. Both are wonderful and more than capable of handling their new duties and because of this our supplier chains, finance and quoting capabilities remain unaffected.
With his passion for travel, the first post-retirement trip sees Mum and Dad jetting off to the sunny climbs of Orlando, Florida in the USA for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Future travel plans include a trip to Australia and many more exciting adventures without the tie of working life.
As a proud of Grandfather to Charlie (12) and Noah (3) retirement will offer more opportunities to spend time with them both. Both Mum and Dad are never happier than when they are with the boys. Whether it is watching Noah taking swimming lessons or taking Charlie to a historical site for help with his school work there will be many more Grandad and Grandma trips coming up.
It is not an exaggeration to say that without Dad Amarin would never have started, not lasted this long, and not be ready to continue in his absence into the future. The hard work, literal blood, sweat and tears, that have gone into making the company a success and ensure its long term future cannot be overstated. As a son, a colleague, an employee, a friend and a business partner I couldn’t be prouder of my Dad.
Happy retirement Dad. Thanks for everything. Here’s to your next adventure.
