Amarin Team Make A Splash!
Christopher Columbus, Redgrave & Pinsent, Captain Jack Sparrow all people famous for their exploits on water. We can now add our names to that list!
On Tuesday afternoon, in recognition of our record breaking July, the team headed to Mendip Activity Centre (Mendip). Unfortunately Aron was poorly and unable to join in. The team chose to do a raft building activity. After a brief safety chat and wearing some fetching kit the riverbanks beckoned. Our instructor for the day, Sheamus, presented the team with 2 long wooden poles, 4 short wooden poles, 4 barrels and a box of ropes. That was all.
The team set about their own design and produced a very impressive raft. Everyone worked together to build, if we do say so ourselves, was a very stable raft. The time was right and our raft was loaded into the “Oldbridge River”, for the team to climb aboard. It not only took all 5 of the teams weight but with excellent buoyancy. After a few minutes of paddling around without an issue Alex, ended up being the first in the water.
Once Alex had climbed back aboard the good ship Amarin continued to prove what a wonderful job the team had done. Only once Mariet, Wanda and Lewis had taken the plunge into the surprisingly warm waters did it fail us. After some fun paddling about, some less fun trying to exit the river with any kind of grace, it was time to build the raft designed by our instructor.
The team had learned a few knots from our attempt and set about building a second smaller raft. This too was loaded into the water…and lasted 3 seconds! We definitely proved that Amarin’s design was a better one than the Mendip Activity Centre one. As everyone was in the water already after the Titanic-esque collapse of raft 2 the team enjoyed some fun in the sunshine. With everything packed away the damp crew headed back to Lewis’ waiting camper van for a hot drink and reflection on what had been an incredibly fun afternoon.
